You can’t beat Australia day on the Gold Coast! Cold drinks, great surf and raucous backyard parties. It doesn’t matter where you turn, you’re in for a good time. If you need some fresh ideas on how to spend your Australia day, check out some of our favourite ways to celebrate Aussie green and gold on the Gold Coast!
Beach cricket and a BBQ
As Aussies, it’s in our blood to love beach cricket. And what better way to enjoy a game of beach cricket, then finishing it off with a BBQ? If you are looking for a traditional Australia day, head to any one of the beaches on the Gold Coast. There are plenty of public parks with barbecues available for you and your family or friends to set up at for the day! Don’t forget to pack the cricket ball!
Chill out on Burleigh Hill
If you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon, head to one of the Gold Coast’s best vantage points – Burleigh Hill. With plenty of pine trees sitting atop the grassy hill, you can hide away from the sun (or do some slacklining), while still enjoying a perfect view of the ocean all the way from Burleigh to Surfers. We can’t think of a better place to sip an ice-cold gin and tonic and share a cheese platter with your mates.
Check out the Broadwater Parklands
If you are looking for a day of family fun, check out the Broadwater Parklands on Australia Day. Running from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Broadwater will be serving up with fun, food and live music for the whole family. With an adventure zone to keeps the kids busy, parents can sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. There will also be a range of food trucks serving up delicious food and drinks. So, sit back, enjoy the sunset then get ready for the fireworks!
Hit the surf
What better way to celebrate this great country than to jump into the ocean? There is nothing us Gold Coaster’s love better than to get into the surf. Lucky for us, great surf is everywhere. Whether you’re teaching the kids to surf at Greenmount, taking the longboards out at Currumbin Alley or getting barrelled Durranbah, there is always somewhere pumping
Explore the Beachfront Markets
A great Gold Coast activity is exploring the 120 market stalls along the Surfers Paradise beachfront. Grab a bite to eat at one of the many food stalls or restaurants and watch the sunset over the Gold Coast’s glitter strip.
Head to your local Surf Life Saving Club
You don’t need to be a lifesaver to head on down to your local club on Australia day. Go support the crew by enjoying the fun activities most life-saving clubs have on offer on Aus day. Think raffles, bbq’s and plenty of ice cold drinks to enjoy with the family!
